Kristi Noem is an American politician serving as the 33rd Governor of South Dakota since 2019. She is the first female to hold the office. Noem is a member of the Republican Party and served in the South Dakota House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011 and in the South Dakota Senate from 2011 to 2019.

Kristi Noem was born on November 30, 1971, in Watertown, South Dakota. She is the daughter of Ron and Corinne Arnold and the eldest of four children. She graduated from Watertown High School in 1990 and attended Northern State University and South Dakota State University, receiving a degree in political science in 1994. After college, she worked in the family farm equipment business for five years.
