Peter Diamandis is an American entrepreneur, engineer, author, and futurist best known for his work in the fields of commercial space exploration, human longevity, and the development of new technologies to improve the quality of life. He is the founder and executive chairman of the X Prize Foundation, co-founder of Singularity University, and the founder and executive chairman of the space exploration and technology development company Planetary Resources. Early Life
Peter Diamandis was born in 1961 in the Bronx, New York. His parents immigrated to the United States from Greece and he was raised in a traditional Greek-American family. He was very interested in science and engineering from a young age and was often tinkering with things in his family’s basement. He attended MIT, where he graduated with a degree in molecular genetics and in aerospace engineering.
Education and Career
After graduating from MIT, Diamandis went on to Harvard Medical School, where he completed his medical degree and a residency in emergency medicine. He then went on to become an aerospace engineer with McDonnell Douglas, where he was involved in the development of the Delta Clipper reusable launch vehicle. In 1995, he founded the X Prize Foundation, which seeks to incentivize technological innovation through prize competitions. He has also co-founded Singularity University, a Silicon Valley-based educational institution that focuses on the development of cutting-edge technologies.
