Early Life
Warren Jeffs was born in 1955 in Sacramento, California. He was the son of Roy and Flora Jessop Jeffs, and the oldest of nine children. His father was a prominent leader in the FLDS, and Warren was groomed to follow in his footsteps. He was educated in the FLDS community and was deeply religious from a young age, attending church meetings and studying religious texts.
Rise to Power
In the early 2000s, Jeffs rose to power as the leader of the FLDS. He was seen as a prophet by the members of the church, and he was given absolute authority over its members. He instituted a number of strict rules and regulations, and he enforced them with an iron fist. He also had a number of wives and children, and he encouraged other members of the church to do the same.
Imprisonment
In 2011, Jeffs was convicted of two felony counts of child sexual assault. He was sentenced to life in prison, but the sentence was later overturned on appeal. He was then re-sentenced to two concurrent life sentences, plus an additional 20 years. He is currently serving his sentence at the United States Penitentiary in Tucson, Arizona.
